I Don't Mean To Brag...

I'm a poet, (and I know it)
One of the modernist kind.
Some sort of muse placed some sort of ruse
Into my little old mind.
An artist, perhaps, to simpler chaps
But it's really a matter of luck.
When I was a child, my word choice was mild
And my diction tended to suck.
But as I grew old my word choice grew bold
And statements came wild and free.
So I sat and I learned and in time I earned
An honorable writing degree.
At first I chose to write down some prose
But soon poems captured my time.
Now, if only I could figure out why
I've lost the ability to rhyme.
